Harp Performance Practice Symposium
Harp Performance Practice Symposium
Friday 22nd November 2013, Carroll Building, Dundalk Institute of Technology
DkIT in association with the IWAMD will host a one-day research symposium on harp performance practice. Harping in Ireland has experienced a significant revival over the past fifty years with an unprecedented number of harpists now active as performers and researchers. This symposium brings together academics and performers to investigate issues of performance practice in Irish harping across a range of styles including (neo-) Irish and early-Irish harps. It draws on a range of expertise into current trends in performance of Irish traditional, art-music and early music on the harp. The symposium is part of DkIT’s Trad Week 2013.
The keynote lecture ‘Taking the note: a perspective on the life, work and legacy of Gráinne Yeats’ will be delivered by Aibhlín McCrann
